Allergic reactions are usually a function of individuals coming into contact with specific compounds. Allergenic species can be encountered in different physical situations including airborne contaminants, food additives etc. The European Union has prescribed twenty four compounds, which are employed as raw materials in the fragrance industry, which can cause allergenic reactions.
M-Scan has the capability to identify and quantify allergenic components in formulated products and blends as well as the airborne environment.
Analytical techniques for the analysis of allergens in fragrances utilise Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) while airborne determinations necessitate a measured atmospheric volume being sampled onto a tube containing Tenax adsorbent. This tube is subsequently analysed by Thermal Desorption GC-MS with all species quantified against appropriate analytical standards.
