WEEE and RoHS Analysis

Recycled plastics

M-Scan has developed mass spectrometry methods for the analysis of brominated flame retardants in plastics and other organic compounds prohibited under the EU’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) and the Directive on the Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS). The RoHS Directive requires Member States to ensure that new electrical and electronic equipment does not contain various inorganic and organic compounds including polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). These compounds can be initially screened using EGA-MS and analysed in more detail by GC-MS.

In addition new raw material imported from outside the EU can be tested to ensure that it is free from prohibited compounds.

M-Scan can also arrange for the analysis of the metals prohibited under these regulations, please contact our nearest laboratory for further details.
