While not as sensitive as Thermal Desorption GC-MS, Headspace GC/MS is appropriate for the analysis of very light volatiles which easily partition into the head space gas volume above a liquid or solid sample.
        • TD GC-MS
The inherent sensitivity of chromatography and mass spectrometry makes the combined techniques ideal for the analysis of smells, odours and/or non odorous VOCs emitted from a wide range of products from food to polymers and pharmaceutical compounds.
        • Pyrolysis GC-MS
M-Scan has two Pyrolysis GC-MS systems, the Frontier Laboratories PY2020D double-shot pyrolyser coupled to a Shimadzu QP2010 GC-MS and the Pyrola 2000 pyrolyser coupled to a PE Turbomass Gold GC-MS.

        Gas Chromatography - GC
        • GC-MS
Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) is used by M-Scan for a wide range of analyses. The combination of these two powerful techniques and the extensive library of data available to assist in the identification of unknown species.

        • GC-FID/ECD
There are several types of detector available for GC instruments of which the most common are Flame Ionisation Detectors (FID), Electrochemical Detectors (ECD) and Mass Spectrometry (MS).

        Other Techniques
        • Capillary Electrophoresis (CE)
Capillary IsoElectric Focusing (cIEF) delivers superior resolution and reproducibility, compared to conventional Capillary Electrophoresis(CE). cIEF is free solution IsoElectric Focusing (IEF) in a capillary column.
        • TOC
Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is used in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry as a quick, accurate and inexpensive screening protocol for contamination validation of small molecule drugs, peptides, proteins, and cleaning detergents.
        • Circular Dichroism (CD)
Circular Dichroism - M-Scan’s Wokingham facility is the first in the UK to offer GLP/GMP-compliant Circular Dichroism Analysis (CD).
        • Protein NMR
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is used in protein product characterisation to analyse the chemical structure and composition of biological molecules.
        • Analytical Ultracentrifugation (AUC)
Analytical Ultracentrifugation (AUC) is used to analyze biological molecules in specially designed centrifuges, which can separate a biological molecule into its multimeric states.
